CJ Abrams homers as Nationals complete 4-game sweep of NL-worst Marlins with 7-2 win

The Cleveland Guardians acquired right-hander Pedro Avila from the San Diego Padres for cash on Wednesday.

In a corresponding move, the Guardians transferred infielder Angel Martinez to the 60-day injured list.

Avila, 27, was designated for assignment April 12 after going 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA in four relief appearances. He is 3-3 with a 3.77 ERA in 22 career appearances (eight starts) across five seasons in San Diego.

He will not be active for Wednesday night's game against the Boston Red Sox and is expected to join the roster in the coming days.
